Benefits of Milk
Protein
Milk is a great source of protein, containing casein and whey. These are two top notch proteins (whey being #1 overall). Drinking milk will provide your body with vast amounts of amino acids, all the better to get rebuilding that muscle you just destroyed!
A cup of milk contains approximately 8g of protein, which makes a great addition to any meal.
Calcium
Calcium is known best of all as a promoter of healthy and strong bones. But it plays a critical role in performance as well. Too little calcium and you can’t relax your muscles. Bad relaxation, makes for less potential energy and so on and ultimately for less than satisfactory contraction. Bad contraction equals bad workouts and no growth.
By improving relaxation you avoid cramping, injury and twitching.
I prefer Khoury Skimmed Milk for its delicious flavor and lack of harmful preservatives.
Benefits of Coffee
Caffeine
Drinking the equivalent of two cups of coffee or a caffeinated energy drink about an hour before exercise may encourage the muscles to burn more fat and thus help you keep going for longer.
Canadian researchers have found that taking more than two cups of coffee has no additional effect.
Australian researchers have found that 1.5 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram – equivalent to 105 mg for a 70 kg (154 lb.) athlete – taken in divided doses throughout an intense workout, benefits performance in serious athletes.
To make the most of its benefits, drink coffee with no or only a small amount of (low-fat) milk because milk slows down its effects.
Chlorogenic acid and other antioxidants
Explanations for the association between coffee consumption and lower rates of heart disease and diabetes often point to chlorogenic acid and other obscure antioxidant substances as the responsible parties. Antioxidants are substances that sop up reactive molecules before they have a chance to harm sensitive tissue like the lining of blood vessels. Some experiments have shown that chlorogenic acid may also inhibit absorption of glucose in the digestive system and even out insulin levels.
